Chris Verhaegen elected chair of EIOPA Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group

Ms Chris Verhaegen, Secretary General of EFRP, has been elected chair of the Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA).

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) confirmed today that Michaela Koller, Germany, and Kay Blair, United Kingdom, were elected Chair and Vice-Chair of the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group. Additionally, Chris Verhaegen, Belgium, was elected Chair of the Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group, and Benne van Popta, Netherlands, was elected Vice-Chair.

The two EIOPA stakeholder groups were established in March to facilitate EIOPA’s consultation with stakeholders in Europe on issues such as the development of regulatory and implementing technical standards, as well as the guidelines and recommendations that apply to the insurance and occupational pensions industry. Members of the stakeholder groups can submit opinions and advice to EIOPA on any issue related to its work. Furthermore, the stakeholder groups are expected to notify EIOPA of any inconsistent application of European Union law, as well as inconsistent supervisory practices in the different European Member States.

Each stakeholder group consists of 30 representatives of companies, consumer groups, trade bodies and academics. Within the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group, Michaela Koller is a representative of the insurance industry, while Kay Blair represents consumer interests. In the Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group, Chris Verhaegen and Benne van Popta are both industry representatives.
