Fitch: US will get Solvency II equivalence

The regulatory regime in the US is likely to be deemed equivalent to the Solvency II requirements by the EU because of its long-standing use of risk-based capital requirements, according to Fitch.


The ratings agency said that because of the US regulator's long-standing use of a risk-based solvency regime, it should be recognised as giving equivalent protection to policyholders despite the fundamental differences with the new system being implemented in Europe.
