The US and the European Union should agree to establish a bilateral forum on insurance and reinsurance issues at the May TEC meeting, the CEA and ACLI say. The forum should focus on the reinsurance collateral issue in the US, the EU’s draft Solvency II directive and the blueprint for financial services regulation, and should develop a joint roadmap toward interim and long-term solutions

“The forum should be a substantive governmental mechanism at the sovereign level that can explore the challenges and opportunities that the evolving regulatory frameworks in both markets represent”, the associations state.
