Financial News: Deloitte mulls moving workers from UK

18 November 2016

Accountancy giant Deloitte has said it will move business from the UK if the government cracks down too strongly on immigration.

Its UK chief executive David Sproul told The Times the company might “reluctantly” take jobs abroad if it could not import enough talented workers.

He told Sky News the firm’s success depended on being able to bring in EU and non-EU workers.

“We have more than 100 nationalities working for us in the UK. Having a diverse workforce is vital in terms of allowing us to grow and innovate.”

If Deloitte was unable to bring in workers it was “more likely” some of the work carried out in the UK would have to be moved, he said, but added it currently has no plans to relocate.

Sproul has previously made calls for immigration policy to respond to economic needs rather than focusing on numbers.
