EP adopted Market Abuse Directive in 2nd reading

24 October 2002

-
The European Parliament adopted the Council’s Common Position on the Market Abuse Directive in second reading, together with a number of amendments from the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. One amendment to the text, relating to regulations designed to ensure the accurate dissemination of financial information, specifies that technical arrangements designed to ensure this should take into account self-regulation rules applying to journalists.

The Commission is optimistic that the EU's Council of Ministers will be able to accept the Parliament's few amendments and move to final adoption of the Directive before the end of 2002.
