Council reached political agreement on Market Abuse Directive

The Economy and Finance Ministers of the EU have reached political agreement on updating the rules protecting markets and investors from insider trading and the dissemination of false information.

The Council confirmed political agreement on a draft Directive on Market abuse with a view to reaching a common position at the earliest opportunity.

Among others the definition of market abuse that was originally provided in the annex was now integrated to Article 1 of the Directive.

Journalists who in good faith received and passed on inaccurate information would not be covered by the Directive.
