Insurance Europe: Tax information exchange must be global, not European

05 September 2013

As Presidents Barroso and Van Rompuy present the EU's plans for an automatic tax information exchange at the G20 summit, Insurance Europe is calling for any exchange to be global, not regional.

In a letter to national fiscal attachés to the EU, Insurance Europe expresses support for the fight against tax evasion and avoidance but insists that, as a global issue, any tax exchange should also have a global reach to avoid multiple reporting and costs.

Insurance Europe also calls on the European Commission and EU Member States to share their expertise with the OECD on the development of the principles governing such an exchange.
