CEBS conference London

09 May 2007

CEBS organized its first international conference in London discussing the CEBS’ progress, and the challenges lying ahead for EU banking supervision. CEBS also presented the results of its survey to assess its performance together with CEBS’ own assessment and plans on how to address the issues that were raised.

Among others, many respondents to the survey feel that CEBS’ contribution to EU wide good practice, and CEBS potential impact on EU convergence, has been somewhat lacking. Therefore, CEBS will test whether the committee is indeed having a bigger impact on the convergence of national supervisory practices. But the Committee also notes that it still has to be tested whether convergence it is both feasible and desirable. “Convergence needs to take account of the nature, size and complexity of institutions and their needs, and the differences embedded in the CRD“, CEBS states.
