CESR and ECB approved standards on Clearing and Settlement

22 October 2004

The Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR) approved the 'Standards for securities clearing and settlement in the European Union'.

The 19 standards, which focus largely on CSDs, are based on the Recommendations for securities settlement systems issued jointly by IOSCO and the Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems (CPSS) in November 2001. The standards will come into force when an “assessment methodology” has been developed and an impact study has been undertaken.

CESR also published the summary of responses to the consultation on the report on “Standards for Securities Clearing and Settlement Systems in the EU'.
