European Company Statute remains unchanged

President Pat Cox rejected to call for a legal challenge before the Court of Justice to the legislation establishing a European Company Statute. He said that after taking into consideration the opinion of the Legal Affairs Committee and consulting widely with others including the Conference of Presidents, he had made a decision not to go to court. Mr Cox said the central priority just before embarking on the Convention was that an act of political faith should be made between the institutions. President Cox stressed that it was not an easy decision to take but that he hoped both those who disagreed and those who agreed would appreciate his judgement, which was made in good faith.
