The latest opinion poll, conducted by the 'market' Institute for the Business magazine "trend", has shed light on the current policical mood of the Austrian public in terms of their governing parties. SPÖ and ÖVP, forming the incumbent Austrian coalition government, lost four and two percentage points respectively compared to their general election result, after discussions about an alleged budget hole. They would now receive 23 per cent (SPÖ) and 22 per cent (ÖVP).

The right-wing populist party FPÖ would now be voted strongest party if there was a general election held on Sunday, and would be able to secure 25 per cent of the vote.

"There is much anger among the population", explains 'market' Institute leader Werner Beutelmeyer on ots.at. He said that NEOS – The New Austria, a liberal political party in Austria founded only in 2012, was heading towards being able to secure votes of double-figure percentage. Format reports that 64 per cent of the Austrians are against new elections. After the general election in September, the Austrian parties are yet to decide on coalition negotiations and are still conducting exploratory talks between the parties, reports the Neue Süd Tiroler Tageszeitung
