New Europe: Johnson calls for “ripping up” the EU rule book

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is promising to “rip up the EU rule book and write a new one,” in the countdown towards the general election.

“We can literally rip up the EU rule book and write a new one for ourselves … We can do all this and so much more if we regain our independence – we just need to vote for it, one more time, this Thursday,” Johnson is expected to say in a speech today.

The Conservative target group are Labour supporters who backed Brexit in the 2016 referendum. Johnson says the UK will leave the EU on January 31 and will begin trade talks that he promises to conclude by the end of 2020.

Johnson leads the polls but the distance with Labour is shrinking and the UK may well be heading towards yet another hung parliament.
