POLITICO: Marine Le Pen plugs Eurosceptic supergroup in Brussels


France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen called on Belgians to vote for the Flemish far-right party Vlaams Belang in the European Parliament election during a campaign stop in Brussels.

"As right-wing parties, we have long remained isolated in Europe," said Le Pen, who heads France’s National Rally, according to the news agency Belga. “Now we have a chance to change Europe from the inside. An à la carte Europe is possible, a Europe of collaboration between nations."

The National Rally has teamed up with other Euroskeptic groups from Italy, Germany, Denmark and others, with the aim of forming a populist supergroup in the European Parliament.

Le Pen spoke at the event in French, even though one of the main platforms of Vlaams Belang is greater independence of Belgians who live in the Flemish-speaking region of Flanders.

"Even if Flanders gains more autonomy, we will always respect the rights of the French-speaking people in our capital," said Tom Van Grieken, the leader of Vlaams Belang, who appeared alongside Le Pen. [...]
