Ireland’s commitment to EU membership undiminished by Brexit

European Movement Ireland commissioned a survey which found that Irish citizens remain exceptionally pro-European, with almost 90% of respondents supportive of Ireland’s continued membership of the EU.

Furthermore, the number of Irish people who believe that Ireland should leave the Union has fallen dramatically since the first poll in 2013. Younger respondents are the most europhile, with a whopping 99% of students stating that Ireland should stay in Europe. Perhaps more surprisingly, the survey found that a majority now support increased defence and security cooperation, despite Ireland’s strict neutrality since gaining independence.
