EP Committee adopted MiFID amendments

The European Parliaments ECON Committee adopted the amendments on the MiFID Directive with regard to certain deadlines Member States now shall adopt the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive by 31 January 2007 and apply these provisions from 1 November 2007.

The Committee also included a sunset and call-back clause to align the comitology provisions of the MiFID Directive with those already adopted in the Capital Adequacy Directive. The Commission representative disagreed with the inclusion of these provisions as the amendments were only of technical nature due to the deadlines. These comitology provisions might hamper an agreement with the Council.
