The IAIS released its first-ever Global Insurance Market Report. Building on years of experience developed through publication of the Global Reinsurance Market Report, the GIMAR documents the performance of primary insurers and reinsurers, as well as key developments in the global insurance market.
The GIMAR builds on the previously issued Global Reinsurance Market Report, which has been incorporated as an integral part of the GIMAR. Publication of the GIMAR by the IAIS Secretariat began in October 2012.
The GIMAR is based on publicly available data as well as confidential data submitted to the IAIS by about 50 reinsurance companies.
The GIMAR is data-driven and does not carry normative statements on supervisory issues. It is not intended to reflect the views of IAIS Members and is neither an official policy paper nor an application paper.
The data shows that global primary insurers and reinsurers have been affected by the financial crisis and by the subsequent recession in many economies around the world. However, the data also shows that the industry has been resilient in the face of adverse developments.
