Brexit service

Very sadly, the UK has now left the European Union. I had hoped that the UK would remain in the EU so there would be no need to continue this pro bono service. But that is not the case as the negotiations about a future trading relationship between the UK and the EU will drag on for a long time – and probably far beyond the eleven months of formal “transition”.

We are now able to provide a simpler monitoring service to you as our new e-mail service provides direct access to the underlying articles - with links that are live for the next seven days. (If you wish to access older articles, you will need access codes from office@grahambishop.com.)

This will be a complex monitoring operation as there are many relevant levels. So we will be introducing a small monthly charge of €5 +VAT - unless you are subscribing to our Gold service. Please click on the button below to subscribe as we will be closing this pro bono service shortly.

There were no special arrangements for financial services in the Withdrawal Agreement, so these negotiations in the "transition" are the industry’s best chance of a satisfactory outcome.

1.       Formal negotiation on financial services – will the EU insist on the classic “prudential carve-out”?

2.       Negotiations on services in general

3.       Any political linkages between talks about physical trade and financial services?

4.       The ratification process after the talks conclude will require unanimity, but many sub-national Parliaments will also have to ratify a “mixed agreement”

5.       If there is no agreement, can the WTO be an effective referee now that its Appellate Body has become inquorate as the US blocks new appointments?
