IMCO Committee considered the amendments to the report on Consumer Protection and held an exchange of views with Joergen Holmquist
Protecting the Consumer: Improving consumer education and awareness on credit and finance
Rapporteur Iliana Malinova Iotova noted that the Commission will come up with a proposal to create a group on financial education - to be covered in the draft proposal.
Shadow rapporteur Ottmar Karas said that the role of the Commission within the report should be reduced, and the integration of member states should be enhanced

The presentation and the discussion in Committee mostly concentrated on other issues than financial services, such as Solvit and the Service Directive.
However, the Director General also announced the final report on the Retail Market Monitoring to be finalized in 2009. The project should help to detect possible market failures.
