EBA publishes Credit Institutions Register

29 November 2012

To increase transparency within the European Single Market, the European Banking Authority publishes on a regular basis a list of credit institutions to which authorisation has been granted to operate within the EU and European Economic Area countries (EEA).

As underlined in the Directive 2006/48/EC relating to the taking up and pursuit of the business of credit institutions, the so-called CRD, the granting of licences to credit institutions remains under the remit of the competent national authority. The list published by the EBA is set up solely on the basis of information provided by competent authorities.

The information regarding the requirements for authorisation to take up and pursue the business of credit institutions can be found on the European Commission’s website.

The Credit Institution Register is updated every six months and only includes credit institutions classified in two different types:

The information available for credit institutions includes: the firms’ name, type, legal form, town, country, the town and country of the firm's head office and the firm’s minimum capital requirement.
