Bank of England: MREL data for UK banks published

Default: Change to:

Bank of England published indicative data on the minimum amount of loss-absorbing resources that the larger UK banks and building societies will be required to hold. This is known as MREL (minimum requirements for eligible liabilities and own funds).

These firms will become subject to interim requirements for MREL on 1 January 2020, and final requirements will come into force in 2022.

MREL is a critical part of resolution – it helps ensure that, if a bank fails, there are sufficient financial resources available to absorb losses and if necessary recapitalise the continuing business.
