EPC: Stakeholders are invited to share their views on Mobile Payments and public consultation of the SEPA cards standardisation volume

The EPC reminded stakeholders that they are invited to share their views on Mobile Payments in Response to the EPC’s White Paper public consultation and that Version 7.5 of the SEPA Cards Standardisation Volume is currently under public consultation.

Reminder – Stakeholders are invited to share their views on Mobile Payments in Response to the EPC’s White Paper public consultation

All stakeholders involved in mobile payments (payment service providers, mobile network operators, application developers, merchant and consumer organisations, etc.) are invited to participate in the public consultation on the EPC’s white paper on mobile payments.

This document informs stakeholders about the EPC’s commitment to an integrated market for mobile payments in SEPA, and the potential of the mobile channel to build on SEPA payment instruments. It draws the portrait of the many use cases of mobile payments in Europe, such as mobile contactless card payments and consumer-to-consumer remote SEPA credit transfers.

The aim of the white paper is to contribute to European mobile payments’ harmonisation, in order to enhance the consumer’s and merchant’s experiences, through convenient, user-friendly, safe and cost-effective solutions.

The white paper version currently under consultation includes information about the new types of mobile proximity payments, the new technologies and the new stakeholders that have entered the mobile payment landscape since the last release of the white paper in 2012.

Reminder – You can participate in the public consultation of the SEPA cards standardisation volume

The Volume is considered to be a key document for the card industry, aimed at achieving cards standardisation, interoperability, and security in Europe. It is published by the EPC and maintained by the Cards Stakeholders Group (CSG).

The Volume version under public consultation includes guidelines facilitating compliance with the Card Interchange Fee Regulation (which final part came into force on 9 June 2016), particularly in the fields of contactless payments and choice of application.

As soon as the consultation closes, the expert teams of the CSG will review all suggestions. An updated Volume will be published in December, to take effect immediately for a three-year period.
